Pattern Play by Akiko and Forrest Kinney
Warm Summer Greetings from BC,
Traveling from one music conference in California to another one in Banff, Alberta made for an awesome July. One conference left me inspired to teach improvisation to my students and the other one, ready to tackle marketing to get more students in the fall.
I'm using the books called Pattern Play by Akiko and Forrest Kinney for a two day summer improvisation camp. The classes are ninety minutes and on each day we will be learning to improvise music from two different genres. My desire is to inspire children to not be afraid to feel the music and play whatever comes to them. I only have one rule- whatever anyone plays- they will be greeted with a high five!
The Music For Young Children conference was wonderful and it was awesome to meet teachers from Canada, US, Vietnam and Korea. Thank you for coming by the booth just to chat and meet me and also many thanks to those who purchased games. I trust they will be of great benefit to you and your students in the coming months.
Continue to enjoy the rest of your summer and don't forget to market you and your studio in the coming weeks. The photo below is at conference in Banff with my colleague Kathy Bartel.

Pattern Play
Hi Lois,
I've looked at the books and always been stumped on how to use them outside of a private lesson. Could you please post what you did in your improv class?
thanks
Elyssa
